MANDISI HAROLD ROBERT NKUHLU ( DIRECTOR )


Mandisi is an admitted attorney since 1994 with a B.Iuris and LL.B (UWC) and also completed the Management Advanced Programme at Wits University. He lectured at the Peninsula Technikon and worked as a commercial legal advisor in the following organizations, Development Bank of Southern Africa, Industrial Development Corporation.

In 2001 he was seconded for six months to an English law firm, Masons and is currently employed as the General Counsel at the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa.


SOBANTU ALFRED NTLOKO (DIRECTOR)


Alfred graduated from the University of the Western Cape in 1993 and worked extensively in the education field and most recently as a financial advisor with Old Mutual PFA division. A director of Umkhwenkwe Investments which has business interests in Fruit and Veg City franchises.

He owns a brokerage business under ABSA Broker division which is licensed with about eleven life insurances and 30 short-term insurance companies.


LUNGELO TERENCE MATIWANE (DIRECTOR)


Lungelo is a qualified attorney and conveyancer. He started his professional carreer at Herold Gie Attorneys in 1996. He has experience in litigation and commercial law. He also worked for the National Prosecuting Authority as a State Advocate in the Asset Forfeiture Unit.

He served in various government departments, including the South African Revenue Service as a Legal Advisor: Forensic Investigations. In this capacity he worked closely with liquidators and insolvency law practitioners.


MICHAEL JAMES (CEO)


In 1964, Michael James established the company Michael James (Pty) Ltd with the trading name "Michael James Organisation" in Somerset West. The company originally traded as estate agents, but soon widened its horizons into the world of auctioneering and with years of hard work, slowly built up valuable experience. By facing numerous challenges, the Michael James Organisation became one of the leading auctioneering firms in Southern Africa.

The Michael James Organisation has over the years established valuable relations with attorneys, liquidators and various financial institutions to which it now lends valuable assistance in the disposal of assets in liquidations, insolvencies and deceased estates.

Michael has been a registered Professional Associated Valuer since 1984 and a member of the South African Institute of Valuers since 1985. He has further been an Appraiser appointed by the Minister of Justice since 1969.


ANDREW JAMES (MANAGING DIRECTOR)


Andrew James, son and co-director, joined the company in 1988. Andrew is a champion of new ideas. He started the Port Elizabeth branch of the Michael James Organisation some years ago. This serves as a base for repossessed vehicle auctions in the Cape and Eastern Cape.

Andrew is a registered Appraiser appointed by the Minister of Justice since 1997 and a member of the South African Institute of Auctioneers since 1996.


SAMANTHA JAMES (DIRECTOR)


Samantha James, daughter of Michael James, joined the family business in 1993.

Samantha heads up all the administrative work within the company as well as overseeing all auctions in terms of advertising, accounting and client relations. Samantha became a shareholder and director of the Michael James Organisation in 1998.

BEE EQUITY SHAREHOLDING

Michael James Organisation has implemented a BEE equity shareholding with 50% of the operating company known as Umgalelo Auctioneers owned by a Black Empowerment company.

Our BEE partner namely Sala Holdings PTY (Ltd) plays an active role at an operational level in the making of key decisions, strategic future strategies and the negotiation of key contracts. Sala Holdings also has a key role in the strategic planning and construction of our Black Economic Policy and Empowerment plans.

Michael James Organisation has also put in place future strategies to grow the empowerment equity stake of the operational company.

BEE POLICY OVERVIEW

Michael James Organisation-Umgalelo Auctioneers has implemented a BEE policy on two levels namely the empowerment of our employees and an equity shareholding in our company at an operational level by a Black Economic Empowerment group.

Michael James Organisation believes in empowering its employees to grow within the company creating a sound stable environment and ensuring the growth of the company and its people.

We provide a continuous learning and educational environment to our employees by providing access to all aspects of this specialised auctioneering industry and the extensive knowledge base held within the company.

We have implemented a succession plan to grow selected employees into management levels as well as looking at providing other previously disadvantaged individuals the opportunity of entering into this exciting and widely challenging world of auctioneering. We are currently in the process of employing a previously disadvantaged individual whom we will groom into being one of the first black auctioneers in South Africa.
